Hamstring Strains: Prevention and Rehabilitation

Hamstring strains are one of the most common injuries in all of sports. Most commonly they are injured when sprinting. We have 3 different hamstring muscles, but the one that is most commonly strained is our "biceps femoris" which is the most lateral of our hamstring muscles, meaning that it is the furthest toward the outside of our leg. Our hamstrings are two joint muscles since they attach to our pelvis and out tibia. Two joint muscles are more commonly strained since the muscle can be stretched at multiple joints. There are two primary points as during the gait cycle that hamstring injuries are most likely to occur: terminal swing phase, and stance phase.
